Need Help Studying for the Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX)?


The most recognized licensing exam is the US Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and the Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX).

The COMPLEX-USA or Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Exam are altogether three osteopathic licensing exams administered by the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME).

Registration

Eligibility


Level 1 can be done by medical students finishing their second year
Level 2 can be done during the 4th year of medical school
Level 3 as final can be done after starting residency.



Exam Details


Level 1. This exam covers basic medical science

Level 2. This exam requires candidates to show their knowledge of clinical concepts and medical decision-making. It is problem-based and symptoms-based, integrating the clinical disciplines. This level has two parts: Level 2-CE and Level 2-PE. The symptoms are represented by actors, to test clinical skills. 

Level 3. This is the final examination, and it also covers the clinical disciplines of medicine. This exam is usually taken during an internship.  



Duration and Score



Level 1

     •  Duration: 1 day: 2 x 4 hour sessions with breaks every hour and in-between
     •  Minimum score : 75 or numeric equivalent


Level 2

     •  Duration:  1 day- 7 hours altogether
     •  Minimum score: 75 or numeric equivalent

Level 3

     •  Duration:  1 day- 7 hours altogether
     •  Minimum score: 75 or numeric equivalent

Level 2-PE.

     •  physical exam skills and history taking
     •  clinical problem solving and integrated differential diagnosis
     •  synthesis of clinical findings (SOAP note format) and written communication
     •  osteopathic principles and/or osteopathic manipulative treatment


Level Three

     •  Pediatrics
     •   Family Medicine
     •  Emergency Medicine
     •  Gynecology and Obstetrics
     • Osteopathic Principles
     • Internal Medicine
     •  Surgery
