United State Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Test Preparation & Practice Test

US Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) sponsored by the National Board for Medical Examiners (NBME) and the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) of US, Inc.  The report card of the USMLE is sent to all medical licensing authorities in US along with other territories for granting license to practice medicine. This test assesses physician’s capability in application of concept, knowledge and principles. The three steps of USMLE also evaluate basic patient centric skills, which form the basis of effective and safe patient care in health and disease.


Eligibility


You must be in any of the following categories:

Step 1 and Step 2:


     •  A Medical student enrolled in a US or Canadian Medical School program which leads to the MD Degree or DO Degree
     •  A medical student enrolled in any medical school outside US and Canada and must be eligible for exam conducted by ECFMG.


Step 3:

     •  Should have MD Degree or DO Degree
     •  Pass both Step 1 and Step 2 ( CK/CS)



Registration


     •  Applicants from US appearing for Step 1 and Step 2 (CK or CS) need to register at http://www.nbme.org
     •  Applicants outside US appearing for Step and Step 2, please register at http://www.ecfmg.org
     •  For Step 3, registration will be done at http://www.fsmb.org



Exam Details


     •  USMLE initially started as a paper-based exam but later on changed to Computer-based multiple-choice test.
     •  Thomson Prometric administers the USMLE test every year using the FRED V2 software.
     •  The Step 1 gauges the ability of candidate in applying scientific knowledge while practicing medicine.
     •  The Step 2 of USMLE examines the candidate’s capability of application of skills and medical knowledge to real-life problems.
     •  The step 3 of USMLE measures the ability of an applicant to apply medical knowledge in medical setting and deals with understanding of clinical and bio-medical science.

Step 1:

Questions are of multiple-choice format.

     •  No. of Questions: 350
     •  Duration: 8 hours


Step 2:

Multiple-Choice pattern and best answer format

     •  No. of Questions: 370
     •  Duration 9 hours


Step 3:

Step 3 is a two-day exam with multiple-choice pattern. It is divided into:

     •  Clinical Encounters
     •  Physician Tasks


Day 1:

     •  No. of Questions: 336
     •  Duration: 8 hours


Day 2:

     •  No. of Questions: 144
     •  Duration: 3 hours
