Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse Exam (CHPN) Test Preparation

You have to answer 135 multiple choice question within 180 minutes. All the questions will have four options.

30% of the questions will be on 1st level of Blooms’ taxonomy, also known as Knowledge. The questions require recall or recognition of specific information. The questions type will be:

   • What happened after...?
   • How many...?
   • Who was it that...?
   • Find the meaning of...?
   • What is...?


50% questions will be on 3rd level Blooms’ taxonomy, also known as Application. Questions require that you understand, relate or apply knowledge to new or changing situations. The questions type will be:

   • Do you know another instance where...?
   • Could this have happened in...?
   • Can you group by characteristics such as...?
   • Would this information be useful if you had a …?

20% of the questions will be based on 4th level Blooms’ taxonomy, also known as Analysis. Questions require you to analyze and combine information, determine solutions and/or to evaluate the usefulness of a solution is required. The questions type will be:


   • Which events could have happened...?
   • What was the underlying theme of...?
   • What do you see as other possible outcomes?
   • Why did ... changes occur?
   • What was the problem with...?

The CHPN exam is administered via computer in over 170 AMP Assessment Centers across USA. You can apply online or manually.

Duration

You can write the exam by appointment only. Exam is conducted 4 times in a year. The exams are held from Monday to Friday between 9:00 am and 1:30 pm on four exam windows

   • 1st March – 31st March
   • 1st June – 30th June
   • 1st September – 30th September
   • 1st November – 30th November

You can call to reschedule up to at least two days to exam date. You can only reschedule within the same exam window.

The CHPN has 135 questions and a 3 hour time limit.
