Every exam has a time limit. The time limit may be a strictly imposed amount of time, or it may be the length of your class. For example, classroom exams may be limited to one hour, while placement and exit exams have time limits for each section of the exam. Because some time limits are very strict, it is important to know how to work within the time limits.

Aptitude tests come in several varieties, from the tests used to gain entry into a college or university to tests used to screen job applicants. Unlike an achievement test, an aptitude test does not measure what you have learned so much as it measures your ability to learn and adapt. An aptitude test is designed to give an idea of your future performance in a given area, whether that area is school- or job-related.

Taking exams by computer is something students are encountering more often. Some exams are computer based (CBE), which means they are just like the pencil-and-paper exam but digital. Everyone receives the same questions and they are presented in a specific order.
