How to Cope With HSPT Jitters

March 31st, 2009

The word “test” is always one that causes a person to get nervous and upset as they worry about whether they will pass it or completely forget everything they have learned! The High School Placement Test is especially concerning as it is a test to determine if they will even allow you to attend their school making it a cause for even more concern. But many times the anticipation is worse than the actual event – particularly if you are properly prepared. (more…)

How to Take a Test

March 27th, 2009

Just saying the words that you have to take a test can cause panic in even the most prepared and knowledgeable student. There is something about the word “test” that instantly gives your stomach a jolt and makes your head spin. But stressing out is not going to help so you have to relax and get yourself in control so that you can deal with it. If meditation helps – do it. If taking big gulps of air helps – do it! Whatever works you must be calm and cool and collected when taking your test. (more…)

The High School Placement Test commonly called the HSPT is an assessment test that is given by private schools to determine whether they will admit you into their school. There could also be some optional topics that are pertinent to that particular school as well, such as religion or science.

March 19th, 2009

Becoming a nurse was my lifetime goal but I was afraid that I wouldn’t even be able to pass the nursing entrance exam so I decided to do some research and figure out exactly what I needed to get through it. I think that is because when you think of a test you become paranoid that you won’t pass it and that all your dreams will be shattered. (more…)

Career Related Tests

March 14th, 2009

Whether you are a college student or someone who is seeking to embark on a different career there are many types of career related tests that you might not have encountered before. There are tests that will not only measure your knowledge and skills in a particular area or subject, but there are tests that will determine if you are a team player or if you will be able to withstand a particular lifestyle or be good at management.

During all your school years in high school and college, most of the tests that were administered were aptitude or achievement tests that determined your knowledge and ability to advance to the next level. Other tests might have compared your abilities to those of your classmates or those of your peers throughout the country. If you went to college you would have taken the SAT-1 tests that would show the college how prepared you were for their curriculums. A law student would go on to take a law test to become an attorney and a doctor would take a specialized test to be a doctor and to become licensed in a particular state. The same is true of a nurse or a teacher – each has specialized tests that pertain to their field of endeavor.

In the business world there are other tests that might be used by companies to determine the suitability of a candidate for a particular job. These could include clerical tests for an administrative type position or a test that would determine a person’s skills in management and decision-making. A sales person would have another specialized test that would decide if the candidate could sell. Most of these tests would give the person a scenario or situation and ask for their way of solving that problem or how they would approach the task.

Still other types of tests are personality tests that will help a company determine if a person will interact well in a team environment or be able to withstand certain psychological or physical demands of the job – such as a fireman or policeman who are constantly being challenged both physically and mentally. These tests would help the recruiter to determine if they are considered good candidates for this type of job. (more…)
