Places to be Avoided When Trying to Study

student3This might seem like a silly topic because everyone should know where they should not go when they want to study. After all – you’re not entirely stupid right? But it’s not a question of stupid – it’s more a question of what is practical and the reality of what usually happens.

When a student comes home from school – most parents would say go to your room and study or do your homework. Especially if you are preparing for a High School Test.  And while that is not entirely a bad idea because they probably have a desk in their room but there is also a bed and many students will promptly lie down and decide to study on the bed. This is a bad idea because the minute your head hits the pillow you will likely be fast asleep.

The living room is not a good place as there will be constant interruptions and likely people watching television, talking and generally disturbing your study time. The kitchen too is not good even if you are at a table you will have distractions with people coming and going. Either of these places will disrupt your study and impair your ability to absorb what you are studying.

Some people might think a mall will be all right because there are generally benches or chairs where you can sit but the constant flow of people will be a distraction that you will not be able to avoid. Okay – so that’s a little much – how about going to my friend’s house and we can study together? This will offer the same distractions as your own home but you will have another person who will disturb your thoughts and probably end up spending time talking, or cruising the internet or playing games.

Like it or not the best places to study are those where you have more isolation and less distraction – the library or the desk in your room – if you can avoid the bed offer the best solutions.  See our Post on the Best Place to Study.
