Survival Skills – Getting Organized
Keeping yourself organized
By keeping a study schedule you keep yourself organized and allow yourself to get more work done in a shorter period of time (which frees up more time to do what you want.) Tips on preparing a Study Schedule. Make sure when you organize your schedule that you allot enough time for each subject. Organize your time so that your focus allows more time for the compulsory subjects and the subjects you find most difficult. Don’t ignore any subject, but prioritize your time so you can improve on the ones that give you the most grief.
Don’t be afraid to switch your study schedule up a bit if things aren’t working for you. If you need to spend more time on a particular subject, rearrange your schedule to match your current priorities. And give yourself a little breathing room in that schedule. Although you want to follow the schedule faithfully, everyone needs to allow for a little flexibility in their schedule once in a while.
Don’t waste time
Make sure you don’t get in the habit of wasting your time. It’s important to organize your study time with your other commitments, like part time jobs or sports practices. Take advantage of every spare minute of the day, and don’t slack off. If you get to class a few minutes early spend that time reviewing your work. Get in the habit of bringing your books with you so you can study during the day, like when you’re waiting for the bus, or while your dinner is cooking. Fold your notes and put them in your pocket so you have easy access to them when a few minutes of study time pop up in the day. Flash Cards are a great way to use spare moments to study.
Create a daily study schedule
Although a weekly study schedule is an excellent way to keep you organized, you can also use other types of schedules such as a daily schedule. This can be as simple as writing out a list of things you need to do, in the order they need to be done, at the start of each day. There’s something to be said about writing a task down; it makes it more definite. This daily schedule can compliment your weekly schedule, which will refer to your monthly, term and yearly schedule. Keeping an eye on the daily details as well as your long term goals can keep you organized and lead to success.
Getting into a routine
You may have managed to get by in school so far without following a study schedule, but you can expect things to get more challenging in high school. An average student who relies on a study guide can get better grades, and a good student can excel.
