Need Help Studying for the Laboratory Equipment Specialist Exam CLES)?

The Certified Laboratory Equipment Specialist Exam is administered by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation. Certification is valid for a period of 3 years.

Registration


Applicants musr hold a minimum of an associate's degree in medical laboratory technology and 3 years' full-time BMET work experience or a bachelor's degree in medical laboratory technology and 2 years' full-time BMET work experience.

Application deadlines are 6 weeks prior to the intended testing date. Applications received after the cutoff will be processed based on availability.



Fees


The exam fee for the CLES test is $295. If a testing center is not available within 250 miles of an applicant, the applicant may pay an additional $100 to use a special testing center. A refund of 50% will be given if an applicant requests to cancel more than 30 days before the selected testing date.

     •  4 hours to complete
     •  Paper and pencil format

     •  Public (employee, patient, visitor) Safety in the Healthcare Facility
     •  Fundamentals of Electricity, Electronics, and Solid-State Devices

Other Information


     •  Exams are administered on Saturdays. If an applicant cannot test on a Saturday due to religious reasons, the applicant must submit in writing a request to take the exam on the Sunday following the original exam date. This request must be submitted at least 8 weeks in advance of the test date.
     •  Applicants arriving for the exam late may be permitted at the discretion of the administrator. No additional time will be given to those arriving late.
