Need Help Studying for the Certified Medical Technologist (MT) Exam ?
The American Medical Technologist (AMT) is a national agency that certifies seven primary designations of health care personnel including Medical Technologist. Other certifications administered by the AMT are Medical Technologist, Medical Assistant, Phlebotomist, and Dental Assistant.
Nationally recognized agencies that accredit Medical Technologist programs include the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), THE Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) and the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
Graduated from an accredited Medical Technologist program with a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, or
Graduated from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree, with a major in one of the biological or chemical sciences and either:
Completed an accredited program in medical technologist following the earning of the bachelor’s degree referenced in “B” above, or completed at least one year of approved laboratory experience within the last 5 years.

Items such as cellular phones, beepers, pagers, cameras, video equipment, papers, books, textbooks, notebooks, unauthorized scratch paper and food are not allowed in the exam area.
The candidate can choose to take the paper and pencil exam format or the computer-administered format.
All AMT computer-based testing is conducted under contact to Pearson VUE.
For the paper and pencil test exam, applicants are given 3 hours to complete the exam.
Answer sheets and exam materials (test booklet) will be provided during the exam.
Only #2 pencil is advised to be used to complete all answer sheets.
The Medical Technologist exam covers 6 areas, General Lab (15%), Chemistry (19%), Hematology (19%), Immunology (19%), Microbiology (19%), and Urinalysis (10%).
