Logic and Reasoning Practice

Some tests, particularly the have logic problems which are a type of syllogism.   Other types of High School Proficiency exams have a type of logic question called Verbal Reasoning.    A third type of logic related question is Arithmetic logic, which are word problems.

For question 1 of the word association section, I would argue that authority is much closer to rule then power. If someone has power that doesn’t necessarily mean they have authority over someone. For example Elon Musk is extremely powerful, but has practically no authority over my life. In contrast my English teacher is quite powerless compared to Elon Musk, but she is in a position of authority, thus she rules over me. My point is that Authority is much closely associated to rule then it is to power. Kim Jung Un has power, but that power doesnt impact my life. But again my weak poor English teacher is ruling over me thus she is the authority, even though if my teacher and a dictator are compared to by power, my English teacher pales in comparison. Its not about who has more power, its about who is ruling over you. Going through these examples has greatly confused me, and is why I hate impractical logic questions. Because its debatable. I have disagreed with multiple of the logic answers on this website.
In question 4 of hspt logic we apparently come to the conclusion that all reading is boring, because their is some reading involved in homework. What about reading not involved in homework? Even if the first two statements are true the third statement is most definitely not true. If there are questions like this on my upcoming test I am fucked, because I have no idea what logic is being used here.

Yes those are very good points and that COULD be argued either way – Authority is a noun and rule is a verb so that difference is key. We could have a very interesting debate which I would enjoy BUT this is a multiple choice question and the finer points here are not relevant. You do make a good point though
